You couldn’t say my name
not because you didn’t know it
not because you could forget it
but because you grew up with it
and because you grew to love it

Until I hear you say my name
I know you’re ashamed
reality is rooted in your thoughts
It’s your coping mechanism
that helps make our moments real
and keeps justification surreal

Say my name but you can’t
You’ve realized the woman you held
was someone you could’ve never have had
I was forbidden fruit
but you kept your conscience
by never saying my name
